The Trial of John Brown

  • Spreckles Theatre Company 5409 Snyder Lane Rohnert Park, CA, 94928 United States (map)

A reading of a brand new play by Gene Abravaya...

In 1859, a man named John Brown, a militant abolitionist, tried to start a slave rebellion in the south. He invaded Harper’s Ferry, Virginia, attempting to steal arms from the Federal armory there. He failed and was put on trial for treason and murder. He was convicted and hanged but by that time, depending on what part of the country people were from, he was considered a martyr and a saint or a demon. It’s still considered the pivotal event that started the Civil War.

The reading begins at 7:30pm on August 25th at the Spreckels Performing Arts Center in the Condiotti Experimental Theater.
