The Crucible

  • LUCKY PENNY COMMUNITY ARTS CENTER 1758 INDUSTRIAL WAY, SUITE 208 NAPA, CA 94558 USA (map)

In 1692 in Salem, Massachusetts, Abigail, niece to the minister, accuses several local women of witchcraft. In the ensuing panic other girls take up the call. Protagonist John Proctor and his wife Elizabeth recognize that their old household assistant Abigail is behind the trouble, and soon Elizabeth herself is implicated and jailed. In an attempt to save his wife, John Proctor reveals to the court that Abigail is lying to get Elizabeth out of the way so that Abigail can resume her affair with John. Elizabeth is called upon to verify her husband’s confession, and, fearing for his life, denies it. His evidence is dismissed, and John is accused of witchcraft. Like his wife, Proctor refuses to join those who have confessed to witchcraft to save their lives, and the curtain falls as he goes to his hanging a good man.

"The Crucible" opens October 27th and runs Thursday to Sunday through November 5th. All Thursday shows begin at 7pm, Fridays and Saturdays at 8pm and Sunday matinees at 2pm.

Impressive performances by Ben Stowe as John Proctor and Heather Buck as Elizabeth Proctor....Due to the strong chemistry between the leads, Proctor’s famous “Because it is my name . . .” speech was thoroughly effective and moving.

Tonight I had the honor of seeing a preview of “The Crucible” at Lucky Penny Productions. Never in my life have I lost myself in a show as I did tonight. At one point, I found myself so sympathetic, I had to stop myself from reaching out to touch an actor, to comfort them. I was truly absorbed by the story, forgetting it was just a play. I found myself wanting to yell at characters out of anger, and a sense of betrayal. I found myself in a story that was more relevant than ever. So, if you want to see a show that will truly deliver, and leave you wanting answers, go online right now and get tickets to see Lucky Penny’s production of “The Crucible”.
