The Miracle Worker

  • Lucky Penny Community Arts Center 1758 Industrial Way, Suite 208 Napa, CA, 94558 United States (map)

A true American classic, THE MIRACLE WORKER dramatizes the volatile relationship between the lonely teacher, Annie Sullivan and her student, blind and mute Helen Keller. Trapped in a secret, silent world, unable to communicate, Helen is violent, spoiled, and almost sub-human and treated by her family as such. Only Annie realizes that there is a mind and spirit waiting to be rescued from the dark, tortured silence. A winner of four Tony Awards, including Best Play.

"The Miracle Worker" opens November 4th and plays Thursday to Sunday through November 20th.  All Thursday shows begin at 7pm, Fridays and Saturdays at 8pm and Sunday matinees at 2pm.

And then there’s Heather Buck. Very few actresses in our community register empathy as easily as she does (or as well), and, as Helen’s nurturing mother, she is spot on, poised and cinematically beautiful.

Twain said, “Annie is a miracle worker. She is your other half, for it takes the two of you to make a complete and perfect whole.”

Hence the playwright William Gibson, called his play about this remarkable true story, “The Miracle Worker.”

The Lucky Penny production, which opened last weekend at the Community Arts Center in Napa, elucidated just that sentiment.
